Meet The Pastor
Pastor Jerry L. Alexander
Dr. Jerry L. Alexander currently serves as Senior Pastor of Faith Christian Church in Athens, Georgia, where he leads with a deep commitment to biblical truth, compassionate service, and community transformation across generations. A retired 27-year employee of BellSouth/AT&T, Dr. Alexander’s professional background in Product Development and Program Delivery continues to inform his innovative and strategic approach to ministry.
A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Dr. Alexander earned his Bachelor of Science from Alabama State University. He later completed a Master of Education at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Answering a call to ministry, he pursued theological education at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC), Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned the Master of Divinity degree. While at Morehouse, he was a Dean’s List student and recipient of the prestigious Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr. Award for Academic Excellence. Dr. Alexander later earned the Doctor of Ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary.
His doctoral studies included alternative context learning experiences that broadened his theological and global perspective. During studies on Globalization and the Church at the United Nations in New York, Dr. Alexander engaged world leaders and refined his understanding of ministry within today’s “global village.” At Harvard Divinity School, he was selected—alongside two international students—to present his Summer Leadership Institute project, which highlighted the power of collaborative partnerships among home, school, and church, using technology as a bridge for communication and shared responsibility.
Dr. Alexander’s ministry has consistently extended beyond the walls of the church into the heart of the community. He helped spearhead a landmark collaboration among the Clarke County Juvenile Court and the Clarke County School System, resulting in the Truancy Intervention Project (TIP). Through the recruitment of trained community volunteers for one-on-one engagement, TIP significantly improved school attendance and helped position students for long-term academic and life success.
Today, under Dr. Alexander’s pastoral leadership, Faith Christian Church is actively engaged in a broad range of holistic, intergenerational ministries that reflect the gospel in action. These include feeding and clothing individuals experiencing homelessness, partnering with Bigger Vision, and providing essential support to those living in natural environments. The church invests in the next generation through student involvement initiatives, book bag and
school supply giveaways, and higher education stipends designed to promote lifelong learning and strengthen the community’s future.
The ministry also extends compassionate care to vulnerable populations by supporting women’s shelters with food and clothing, providing Christmas gifts through the Salvation Army Angel Tree, and walking alongside aged-out foster care youth by assisting with housing and educational opportunities that foster independence and successful life outcomes. Committed to strong families, Dr. Alexander leads efforts in marriage enrichment, couples counseling, and family mentoring, while also partnering with Habitat for Humanity to help provide safe and affordable housing for deserving families.
At the core of Dr. Alexander’s life and ministry is a simple yet powerful testimony that continues to guide his leadership and inspire those he serves: “But with God all things are possible.”
Dr. Alexander and his wife, Janice, are the proud parents of two sons, Jason and Jared, and remain devoted to building a legacy of faith, service, and hope that speaks to every generation.
“WE ARE BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING!”
Our Focus
We Worship Passionately
- We are Jesus people, not religious people. Jesus gave His life for us, and our response is a life fully devoted in passionate worship and service to Him.
- Our heart is for ALL people because all people are loved by Jesus. We make no apologies for focusing on reaching those who are far from God and leading ALL people—regardless of age, race, background, gender, or past—into a growing relationship with Jesus.
We Love People. We Serve at the Highest Possible Level
- God gave His first and best when He gave us Jesus. We always strive to do our best with what we have. We’re on time, engaged, and prepared. We don’t do things halfway. If we’re going to do something, it’s going to be done to the best of our ability.
- Freely we have received, freely we will give. We are a generous people, always ready and willing to give our resources. We are blessed to be a blessing.
We Give Generously
- We embrace the Gift of Giving as a key to living an abundant life.
We Have Fun
- This one is simple: Why would anyone want what we have if it’s dull and boring? Our focus on the Next Generation means creating fun opportunities and environments while leading them in a growing relationship with Jesus.
