Janice Hutchings Alexander
Janice is the youngest of five children born to the late Mr. George W. Hutchings Jr. and Mrs. Thelma P. Hutchings from Danville, Virginia. She joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the Pastorate of the late Rev. Samuel L. Logan while in elementary school with her siblings. Some of her fond memories included walking to church, receiving the cards from Sunday School and being baptized outside.
She graduated from high school and attended North Carolina A & T State University, Greensboro, N.C. receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Social Services, Summa cum laude. Following graduation, she returned home and worked for the school system as a Community Schools Coordinator which was designed to make the school available for the community to use thus offering classes during the evening and making the gym available on Saturdays. Following her tenure, Virginia Legal Aid Society, Inc. opened an office in Danville and she was hired as a Paralegal which she really enjoyed. For graduate school, her passion was in helping people so she decided to pursue Social Work. She attended and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During her time there, she was elected to serve as the student representative on the National Association of Social Workers Board of Directors and received an internship with AARP in Atlanta.
As with each of the areas she lived, she found a church to attend and did the same as she moved to Atlanta connecting with The Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. H. F. Shepherd. She served on the H.F.S. Ushers Board and the leader of the Senior Adult Ministry. Following her internship, she received a full-time position with AARP and served for almost twenty-years, before taking a year off and then working for the State of Georgia for twenty years. She is now retired. Her passion and commitment are for helping people with a special fondness for older adults.

Our Focus
We Worship Passionately
- We are Jesus people, not religious people. Jesus gave His life for us, and our response is a life fully devoted in passionate worship and service to Him.
- Our heart is for ALL people because all people are loved by Jesus. We make no apologies for focusing on reaching those who are far from God and leading ALL people—regardless of age, race, background, gender, or past—into a growing relationship with Jesus.
We Love People. We Serve at the Highest Possible Level
- God gave His first and best when He gave us Jesus. We always strive to do our best with what we have. We’re on time, engaged, and prepared. We don’t do things halfway. If we’re going to do something, it’s going to be done to the best of our ability.
- Freely we have received, freely we will give. We are a generous people, always ready and willing to give our resources. We are blessed to be a blessing.
We Give Generously
- We embrace the Gift of Giving as a key to living an abundant life.
We Have Fun
- This one is simple: Why would anyone want what we have if it’s dull and boring? Our focus on the Next Generation means creating fun opportunities and environments while leading them in a growing relationship with Jesus.
